Why Invest in Public Health?

Dr. Janet Porter

Janet Porter has 40 years of experience in public health and healthcare.  During the course of her career, Janet has served as the Chief Operating Officer of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, the Associate Dean of Executive Education at the University of North Carolina’s School of Public Health, and as Vice President and then Chief Operating Officer of Nationwide Children’s Hospital.  Her collegiate faculty experience includes appointments at Harvard University, The Ohio State University, University of Minnesota, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, University of Colorado, and the University of Miami.

Dr. Porter believes passionately in service through transformative leadership.  Compiling an exemplary record of service, Dr Porter has been recognized with appointments to the boards of trustees of The Ohio State University, the Wexner Medical Center, the AARP and its National Policy Council, the OSU Alumni Association, and the National Center for Healthcare Leadership.  Recent consulting clients include the Mayo Clinic, Boston Children’s Hospital and Kaiser Permanente.

Janet holds a BS and MHA from The Ohio State University, and an MBA and PhD in healthcare strategy from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Porter has been recognized by the U of M with the Gaylord Anderson Award, the University’s highest honor given to an alumnus who has made a significant contribution to public health, and by Ohio State with the Mershon Award, given to an alumnus for outstanding service to the University. She lives in Hilton Head, SC, with her husband Jim O’Sullivan.

PARTICIPATION REPORT
43%
Our Annual Campaign officially started one month ago, October 5, 2020.  To say that just 43% of the Club has donated to our Annual Services Campaign at this point is hard to report.  Have you made your pledge or donation?  Yes?  Thank you.  No?  Why not?  Our goal is 100% participation this year.

The funds that we are raising now will be used to fund projects in the next Rotary year.  Programs such as Colerain Elementary, Windsor STEM, CGWE, Rafiki, SAS Fair, Scholarships, and many more all benefit from this Annual Campaign.  What drives your Rotary spirit?  Why not support it?

Donate ONLINE, send and EMAIL, or a CHECK today!  Pledges can be made now and paid at a later date.

ROMAZING
A new term was coined recently by Nanci McCorkle.  Nanci's word is ROMAZING.  It's time we all show off how ROMAZING our club truly is.
Since July 1 we have had 19 fellowship and service events for members and guests.  That's ROMAZING.  In addition to these events we've had 15 weekly Rotary Zoom meetings.  #ROMAZING!

During this time we are working to bring Rotary to you in ways that many feel comfortable.  Please share this Romazing news with others.    Perhaps we will see you soon?
FOOD DRIVE SUCCESS

What a Fabulous Friday!  Not only did we have amazing weather but we had Romazing Rotarians show up and help donate to the Windsor Stem Academy Food Panty Drive.
In the next couple of weeks Nancy Trux and Sally Larrimer will give us a update of how much we collected.

Thank you all for helping brighten up the lives of so many children and their families :)
Annual Bell Ringing
Each year for more than many can recall Columbus Rotarians have gathered to take a shift at ringing a bell for the Salvation Army.  We've rung bells on downtown corners, in the Nationwide walkway and at CBJ games.  On December 5 we have an opportunity to ring at Kroger in Worthington.  (CBJ games are on hold 'til after the first of the year.)  We will take 2 volunteers per shift on Dec 5 and use Sign UP genius to get everyone on the schedule.  We have and will follow Covid protocols as provided by the Salvation Army. You can get a copy from the club office.

If you will be joined by a family member or friend PLEASE make sure to sign up for BOTH spots on the list.

BLOOD DRIVE PLANNED
Thanks to a partnership between Rotarians Cory Paul (Red Cross) and Stacy Simon (Church of Scientology) a blood drive is scheduled for December 13, 2020 from 1 - 6 PM.  The two organizations far exceed any cleaning protocols.

One has to SCHEDULE an appointment by calling the Red Cross or by contacting Stacy.  See details below.
