NOTE FROM PRESIDENT CALLOWAY
Note from President Calloway
Dear Fellow Columbus Rotarians:

It was nice to return for this past Monday's luncheon and program.

It was tough to leave the warmth and sunshine of southwest Florida.

While meeting with my clients in Florida last week, I scheduled a coffee with a Rotarian in Naples that I have met at conventions the last two years.

He shared with me that the PURPOSE of ROTARY is to meet our members needs...every level:

Mentoring-Networking-Doing Good-Friendships

Are we meeting your needs?  If not, let's get to work on it together.

I offered a new line to my opening welcome remarks on Monday:

"Welcome to the best hour of your week."

Several Rotarians stepped up with Scott gone to help out with Monday's luncheon and program.

Shout outs to: Past Past President Jack Graf!!!, Anish Doshi, Evan DuBro, Matt Allyn and Debbie Donahey  Thank you all !!!

I almost thanked Mike Rankin who was sitting at check in when I was on mic but the real volunteers said he had just moved away from Very Past President Mike Schoedinger who was talking....

AFTER HOURS ON THE HORIZON: mark your calendar now to join our next "After Hours" near Easton on Thursday, February 28th.  VP Elect Amanda Bowen will send out the Evite later this week.

We were treated to a unique introduction and presentation of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra (CSO).

If member Matt Allyn had not been a shower singer and youth musician, he may not have joined the CSO as a Board member.

If he had not joined the CSO, he may not have brought Denise Rehg, Executive Director, CSO into Columbus Rotary as a new member.

If Denise Rehg, were not a Columbus Rotarian she may not have introduced the CSO is such a splendid and unique fashion on Monday.

Did you know the CSO has 6 youth orchestras?

Did you know the CSO had 243 programs in 2018?

Did you know the CSO has had a 52% increase in attendance the last two years?

Did you know the annual economic impact of the CSO is $14,000,000?

Greeting Rotarians and guests on their way out after the CSO program, all were delighted with the presentation.  One said, the best program this year.

Three members of the CSO, David, Betsy and Robert beautifully performed 6 brief pieces of music to demonstrate classical to ballets.

We only wish more CRC members had joined us.  If you did miss it, you can watch it on the video recording by channel 3.

This program concluded our recent thematic series of the arts.

Following "foody" month in December and mostly the "arts" in the New Year, we break next Monday to celebrate Presidents' Day and then start thematic "business" programs.

We start business speakers on Feb. 25th with Robert Schottenstein and then break for some "March Madness" with Clark Kellogg on March 4th.

We are fortunate to have great programs and speakers every week.  Please review the calendar in this newsletter and invite a guest to CRC.

SERVICE PROJECT ON THE HORIZON:  Peace Builders on Feb. 24th, please contact David Pritchard as we need more volunteers.

District 6690 is offering a match in points for each Rotary Club that has members contribute to The Rotary Foundation (International) by February 28th for the Annual Fund and/or Polio Plus.

Now would be a GREAT TIME to join our District 6690 initiative and ask to be in the "Club 125" to The Rotary Foundation each year which is $100 for the Annual Fund and $25 for Polio Plus.

Have you picked up your monthly magazine "The Rotarian"?  Good articles about Rotary of course and other articles of interest each month.

Past President and Past District Governor Nelson French pointed out that I missed citing a reference in the current issue two weeks ago so I made such announcement on Monday.  Nelson reads each issue cover to cover!

Be the Inspiration!

Yours in Rotary, President Calloway

THANKS
Thanks to those who have quickly responded to our recent dues invoicing.  Thanks also to those who have made suggestions which will only help this run more smoothly in the future.  Haven't seen your emailed Dues Statement?  Check your spam folder first and then contact Scott.
THE FAMILY OF ROTARY

Sean Riley hasn't been to Rotary for a month or so due to travel and then a fractured ankle. He had surgery to pin it together 3 weeks ago and will be off his feet for another 2 to 3 weeks. Hope to be back at Rotary soon after that.

Jackie Cooper will have surgery for a new hip on February 15, 2019.

New Members
On Tuesday, November 20 more than  30 people gathered to recognize our newest members and hear from DG Craig Maxey.  Our new members were "re-badged" earning their regular membership badge and recognizing their engagement in the club.

DG Craig gave the annual presentation of the District Governor which was very moving.  Like Past RI President John Germ the day before, DG Craig provided stories and experiences in how small our Rotary world is, yet how large an impact we play.

Here are some pics from the evening.
