Recently a prize donation application was being developed for our upcoming Derby Day Soiree on May 5, 2018.  As a few on the committee were discussing whom we serve, a list was generated for the application.  Now, I am sure that we have left a few people out, so I am asking that you send me, Scott Brown, an estimate of the number of people your committee will serve this year if not represented here.
We help;
5200 3rd graders receive dictionaries,
10,000 high schoolers through the Student Service Above Self Program,
several hundred at the Rafiki Orphanage and Academy in Nairobi, Kenya,
another several hundred with water wells in Oromia, Ethiopia,
30 Military Veteran students at OSU,
dozens of children at the Homeless Families Foundation Olympics,
countless children were affected by the Franklinton Youth Park clean up,
70 students receive scholarships each year,
30 high school students participate in the Enterprise Academy,
15 children with the Childhood Cancer Family Connection Christmas presents,
and the entire student population at Colerain Elementary during our 97th Christmas Party.

I apologize if I've missed you.  Help me keep adding to this list or refining it with better numbers.

Rotarian Dan Kuhns passed away on December 24, 2017 while in Taiwan.  He and wife Bridgett have been living, teaching, and advocating for stroke recovery in the country for several years.  Dan was an ardent supporter of Rotary, and engaged in several clubs in Taiwan.  Dan will be remembered at a memorial service on Saturday, January 27 from 1:00 to 3:00pm at Schoedinger Worthington Chapel, 6699 High Street, Worthington, OH, US, 43085

The wife of former Rotarian Joe Davis,Margaret (Margie) F. Davis, 86, of Columbus, died January 6, 2018 at First Community Village, Upper Arlington, OH. She was preceded in death by the love of each other's lives, her husband of 66 years, Joseph L. Davis. Margie is survived by her sons Stephen Davis (Susie) and Thomas Davis (Gina), daughter Jane Leach (Donald), grandchildren Emily Lorusso (Vinny), Jenny Taylor (Paul), Gwen Nordman (Matthew), Anna Leach, McKenna Davis, great grandchildren Davis Taylor, Sophie Taylor, Abigail Nordman and Micah Nordman, brother Conrad Cooper (Janet) and sister Sue Nippert (Tom). Sister Jane Conley (Dick) preceded her in death. A proud South High Bulldog alumna, Margie served the community energetically, faithfully and wisely through such organizations as the Columbus Symphony Orchestra Women's Guild, Clintonville Woman's Club, Overbrook Presbyterian Church, and P.E.O. As a testament to who she was, Margie held leadership positions in all, while also being a terrific wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. The family will receive friends from 3:00pm to 5:00pm, Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Schoedinger Northwest Chapel, 1740 Zollinger Road, Upper Arlington, OH 43221.
You should have received an electronic invoice for your Semi Annual dues from QuickBooks and the ROTARY CLUB OF COLUMBUS in NOVEMBER.

If the invoice is still sitting in your inbox awaiting your attention, it is over due.  Rotary International charges the Club for every member on its roster as of January 1 (and July 1) each year.  The Club, in turn, pays the associated membership, insurance and magazine fees on your behalf.  Please remit payment to the Club ASAP.

You will note that one's dues and meeting or lunch fees are broken apart.  We did this to help you better understand the costs associated with your annual membership.  On the food side we are not in the business to make money, so many of these costs are passed right on to The Boat House.  For those prepaying meals, the cost is actually beneficial as the price is set below our weekly per plate charge.  On the dues side one quarter of the annual fees are paid to our Rotary District and Rotary International.
As has been the case, you can make a payment on our website, make a payment at a Rotary meeting and/or send a payment to the office at 950 Michigan Ave, Columbus, Ohio 43215.
Please make it now!  If you have a question, ask Scott.  This information is not listed in the members section of the website.
If you pay in installments, please disregard the message.
Congratulations to Bill Corbitt who was elected at the Board's December meeting to serve a s President in 2020-21.  Bill will take a seat "in the chairs" starting in July 2018 as the Vice President.  The following year he will serve as President Elect.
Bill has an impressive Rotary resume, serving at the Club and District level in New York and on the same levels here in Columbus.

Dear Fellow Columbus Rotarians,
First, Dave and I want to thank all Columbus Rotarians who have made their gift or communicated their pledge for our Annual Services Campaign.
In the new Rotarian magazine, January 2018:
"Fundraising is the highway that allows Rotary to help improve lives in the world.  Together we continue to eradicate polio and do other humanitarian works in our communities.  If not for fundraising, we never could have accomplished all of what we are proud of."
Secondly, we recognize and appreciate that all Columbus Rotarians lead busy lives and consider best how to deploy their time, talents and treasures.
Over the years and even at Monday's meeting, some say thank you to me for reminding them about the campaign.
If you have not as yet participated, please take a moment now...YOU Can Change Lives NOW...for Columbus Rotarians to join and participate in Columbus Rotary's Annual Services Campaign.
We ask that you join now: please pay by credit card on our website or mail your check now to Scott Brown,
Thank you for your gift/pledge, time and attention.
Yours in Rotary,
Co-Chairs, Calloway Robertson and Dave Alspach
