Dear Fellow Columbus Rotarians:
This past Monday, we gathered at Valley Dale for the 16th Annual CRC Student Service Above Self Program/High School Fair.
This the most awesome "Fair" of its kind!
Students' service projects shared and presented addressed a great many needs.
What these young people have done in their community service projects ranged from the unexpected to the amazing.
These students learned how good it feels to help others.
They are engaged to create a more just and caring world.
Last night, we kicked off Columbus Rotary Club's first "Columbus Rotary Nights".
This is another extension of Columbus Rotary that will gather the second Tuesday night each month with a structure.
Last night, James Bicknell sponsored the reception/happy hour.
Don Jones kicked off and remarks were given by Jonathan Eubanks, Amanda Bowen and me.
Fellow CRC members joined along with bringing guests to introduce to Rotary and some signed up from social media.
Tomorrow morning, we kick off "Third Thursdays" breakfast or not gathering at OSU's Golf Club on Tremont at 7:30 AM.
Please contact Carl Faehnle for details and look on our calendar.
On Monday, we have a guest speaker early on our agenda followed by a first time "Club Assembly".
Be the Inspiration!
Yours in Rotary, President Calloway

Yes.  We mailed everyone a paper copy dues statement.  Yes.  This was intentional.

With the Club Board's April approval of the new dues structure it was determined to reach everyone where our message may have been missed, moved to spam, etc.  Future reminders regarding this invoice will be sent with a QuickBooks payment option.

All dues are based upon $600 per year and billed semi-annually.  (Other billing options can be arranged.) This figure includes drinks and desserts for those not selecting the prepaid lunch option.  Previously this amount was $712.

A Pre-Paid lunch option is available to every member and includes a discount.

An R85 discount applies progressively until one receives a 30% discount on Dues which is nearly identical to the R85 price today.

For those under 40 a 5% discount is applied to your dues for every year under 40 with a maximum 50% discount.  This decreases each year until you reach 40 and was designed to be a gradual increase to our base membership amount.
Rotar E members receive a 50% discount which is the same discount as current pricing.
Discounts that apply are based upon one's birthday and Rotary tenure.
A final option is provided for those that are willing and able to support the club as a sustaining member.  Sustaining members are encouraged to bring prospective members to Monday lunch and will receive Guest Passes as part of their Sustaining Membership.  Sustaining members voluntarily pay fees in addition to their ordinary dues.  The guest pass program was designed to introduce more individuals to Rotary on a regular basis and pays for the lunch of that guest.
There will be an annual 2% increase to the base dues each July as approved by the Club Board in 2015 or until the Club Board alters that policy.

Our second "Bring Your Graduate To Rotary Day" will feature Astronaut  Kathryn Sullivan.  Scheduled for June 17, we encourage members to bring a high school, college, advanced degree, or other type of graduate to our meeting to help them celebrate.  Please let the office know the name of the graduate, their school, degree, future plans, etc for inclusion in a power point presentation.

Recently the membership of the Columbus Rotary Foundation elected several new members to the Board.  They include
Eldon Hall, Jr., Dana Vogelmeier, Scott Whitlock, and Tim Young.  Sandy Knoesel was elected President.  An additional member has been nominated and is under consideration by the membership.

Thanks to David Alspach, Larry Anderson, Mike Smith, Keith Stimpert and Lori Wengerd for their service to the Board.

We are happy to introduce to you two new opportunities to engage with fellow members, friends and associates.  Starting next week ROTARY NIGHTS & THIRD THURSAYS will appear on our regular schedule.  Each offer a unique way to join others outside of our Monday meetings.

With our First Fridays on hiatus until we identify a new lunch spot, you might want to check these out.  It's also a great low key way to introduce someone to Columbus Rotary.  Join us if you are inclined.

EASY Rotary Sunset Kayak trip
Downtown Columbus
Friday evening, June 21
What: An EASY 60-90 minute trip in a kayak around the downtown area. Beginner? No problem! Guides will be with us at all times. We will always be in view of downtown.

Where: We will launch from the Main Street Bridge Access on the WEST side of the Scioto River. Parking details will be shared after registration.

Time: At 6PM, for those who wish, bring a light supper/snack and we’ll have an informal tailgate in the parking lot near the launch point before our sunset paddle. We will walk to the boat launch area at approximately 6:30 to begin a quick safety lesson and begin loading into the kayaks (assistance provided!) We will be off the water before dark.
This will be an exclusive Rotary event if we have 25 participants. Let me know your intentions by May 13!
Guests Welcome! 614.329.1894, or
Afterward, we’ll go to Franklinton and have an adult beverage at one of the breweries!

What’s included:
Under the leadership of PDG Steve Sandbo 18 months ago our District supported sending 2 used fire trucks to Guatemala that were donated to two volunteer fire departments in the Western Highland that had no fire equipment whatsoever. This past November,Steve and 8 Rotarians visited and met with the two volunteer fire departments in Guatemala and saw first hand how the trucks have saved lives in Guatemala. It was very touching.

We are now outfitting firetruck ROTARY III.   We could use your help.  The truck is in need of any and all types of used fire gear including:
