Donald Davidson
Indianapolis 500 Historian
Indianapolis Motor Speedway Historian Donald Davidson is believed to be the only full-time historian employed at any race track in the world.
A passionate interest in the "500" since his early teens irresistibly drew the English-born-and-raised Davidson to the Speedway for a three-week visit in May 1964. Having committed to memory a plethora of trivial details during the seven years it took for him to save up for the trip, he was able to delight both active and retired participants with year-by-year recitations of their careers.

He returned from England permanently the following May and was fortunate not only to be invited by the late Sid Collins to join the worldwide IMS Radio Network broadcast for race day, but also to secure employment with the United States Auto Club, where he was to remain as statistician and historian for the next 31 years. Officially becoming the Speedway's historian on January 1, 1998, he continues to serve on the Radio Network.

Dear Fellow Columbus Rotarians:
Sorry you missed my column last week as I did not make the deadline or rather the  "shot clock" as Clark Kellogg used in his remarks this week as our "motivational" guest speaker.
First, let's go back a week that started off with our CRC Peace Builders non-violence seminar on Sunday, February 24th in the Linden area.  For some it may have been short on action but for most it was impactful in many ways.
Thank you to chair-Nancy Trux; the many committee event organizing volunteers, several more member participating and the co-masters of programming: Tom Carlisi and Malik Moore.
Following the foody month of December and mostly the arts of the new year, on February 25th, we heard from a strong business and community leader in Robert Schottenstein, CEO M/I Homes.  One of only 20 publicly traded home builders in the U.S.  He spoke about the entire housing and home building industry and the data points of our low rate of home building around the country and especially here at home in Central Ohio.  He was frank, candid and honest.  He passed our Rotary 4-Way Test.  If you missed him, please watch our video via our website link and/or just YouTube it.  In "Columbus Rotary Robert Schottenstein" immediately it is first up for you to watch and enjoy.

The Enterprise Academy has been moving smoothly along at Franklin University for the last four weeks. We have one more class this coming Monday before students will be mentoring at a business site for the following two Mondays. The class started with 29 students and 27 are still enrolled after four weeks.

Several Columbus Rotarians have been excellent guest speakers including Scott Whitlock, Manana Fribley and Malik Moore. Anish Shah was also a guest speaker. Several Rotarians will mentor students during their business visits. They include Mark Shy with Brexton Development, Manana Fribley with Home 2 Suites, John Koetz of WE Davis Insurance Agency and Tracey Najera of the Children's Defense Fund. We are also using Two Caterers who has been very supportive in working with Enterprise Academy students in the past.

Our student presentations will take on Monday, March 25 at Fisher Hall on the Franklin University Campus. I will extend an invitation for Rotarians to attend at a meeting in March.
Jim Duzan - Chairperson, Columbus Rotary Enterprise Academy
