Dear Fellow Columbus Rotarians:
Derby Day Soiree 2019 was both a fabulous fun social evening and great fundraiser for our service projects.
Shout out to Chair Halle Markwas for her excellent organization and leadership.  Thank you Halle. Well done!
Thank you to all Soiree committee members and volunteers making it a success.
Thank you to all who bought race squares, donated items, bought items and joined the fun.
This past Monday, Columbus City Schools new superintendent, Dr. Dixon, was our guest speaker.
She gave concise, prepared remarks leaving 20 minutes for Q & A.
She addressed every question.  If you missed Monday, watch the program via YouTube search "Columbus Rotary Dr. Dixon".
Next Monday, May 13th, we gather at Valley Dale for one of our signature service projects.
Please join and enjoy meeting the high school students as they share their service projects from 11:00-12:00 before luncheon and program.
Also next week, we initiate two new ways to gather with Columbus Rotarians, friends and prospective members.
Tuesday, May 14th is our kick off to "Columbus Rotary Nights" at the Goat downtown after work, led by Don Jones and CRN Committee.
Thursday, May 16th is our kick off to "Third Thursdays Breakfast" or not, you do not have to eat breakfast to join, led by Past President Carl Faehnle.
Many events in May and June to enjoy.  Please review our calendar for all event details and join.
Be the Inspiration!
Yours in Rotary, President Calloway

   Rotary: People of Action

We are happy to introduce to you two new opportunities to engage with fellow members, friends and associates.  Starting next week ROTARY NIGHTS & THIRD THURSAYS will appear on our regular schedule.  Each offer a unique way to join others outside of our Monday meetings.

With our First Fridays on hiatus until we identify a new lunch spot, you might want to check these out.  It's also a great low key way to introduce someone to Columbus Rotary.  Join us if you are inclined.

ROTARY NITES - Meeting twice a month for fellowship, programs, and service, this group offers folks the chance to meet in in the evenings after work.
Hosted by Don Jones
May 14 - 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM
The GOAT at LC RiverSouth
219 S High, 43215

THIRD THURSDAYS - Meeting once a month for networking and fellowship
Hosted by Carl Faehnle
May 16 - 7:30 AM

You will be mailed (yes, from the US Post Office) an invoice within the next week incorporating our New Dues Structure beginning JULY 1, 2019.  This new structure was designed to benefit member retention and member attraction.
Dues for Individual Members are $300 per half and include drinks and desserts (used to be $356).

Lunch at the door is $20 for members, $25 for guests.
There is no longer a $6 Meeting Fee collected at the door for any dues classification.
The opportunity to prepay for lunch will be offered to all members at a discounted rate.  If paying every week, one would pay $440.   With the discount, members will only pay $290 for six months.

Members under 40 receive a 5% discount for each year under 40 up to a maximum of 50% discount.

Members whose age plus years of membership in Rotary equal 85 or more receive a 2%+ discount per year over R85.

Rotar E member dues will be $150 per half.

Do you have some ties you no longer use?  Our high school friends at KIPP Columbus would like to beef up your wardrobe.  Bring your ties to Rotary between now and Memorial Day and we will deliver the ties to the school.  Jim Bartha and Chris McGovern are heading leading this project.

EASY Rotary Sunset Kayak trip
Downtown Columbus
Friday evening, June 21
What: An EASY 60-90 minute trip in a kayak around the downtown area. Beginner? No problem! Guides will be with us at all times. We will always be in view of downtown.

Where: We will launch from the Main Street Bridge Access on the WEST side of the Scioto River. Parking details will be shared after registration.

Time: At 6PM, for those who wish, bring a light supper/snack and we’ll have an informal tailgate in the parking lot near the launch point before our sunset paddle. We will walk to the boat launch area at approximately 6:30 to begin a quick safety lesson and begin loading into the kayaks (assistance provided!) We will be off the water before dark.
This will be an exclusive Rotary event if we have 25 participants. Let me know your intentions by May 13!
Guests Welcome! 614.329.1894, or
Afterward, we’ll go to Franklinton and have an adult beverage at one of the breweries!

What’s included:
Under the leadership of PDG Steve Sandbo 18 months ago our District supported sending 2 used fire trucks to Guatemala that were donated to two volunteer fire departments in the Western Highland that had no fire equipment whatsoever. This past November,Steve and 8 Rotarians visited and met with the two volunteer fire departments in Guatemala and saw first hand how the trucks have saved lives in Guatemala. It was very touching.

We are now outfitting firetruck ROTARY III.   We could use your help.  The truck is in need of any and all types of used fire gear including:
