OUR NEXT MEETING

"The OSU Wrestling Team"
Coach Tom Ryan

Tom Ryan has led the Ohio State wrestling program to unprecedented heights, culminating last season with the program's first-ever national championship. The 2015 Big Ten, NWCA and InterMat Coach of the Year, Ryan concluded his ninth season in Columbus by watching both Logan Stieber and Nathan Tomasello win NCAA titles on the way to the squad's first ever team title. Additionally, the Buckeyes also ended a 64-year Big Ten title drought, winning the championship in front of a home crowd at St. John Arena.

Throughout his tenure as the head coach of Ohio State, Ryan, a three-time national coach of the year, has maintained a high standard of excellence for his student-athletes. In addition to the successes of Jaggers, Pucillo and Stieber on the national level, under Ryan's guidance Lance Palmer (2007-10) became just the second four-time All-American at Ohio State. (Tommy Rowlands was the first). Ryan, a native of Wantagh, N.Y., is averaging about three All-Americans a season having coached 23 selections during his seven-year term. Within the Big Ten Conference, Ryan has coached a quartet of Buckeyes to league titles in Pucillo (184 pounds in 2008), Palmer (149 pounds in 2010), Logan Stieber (133 pounds in 2012 and 2013) and Hunter Stieber (141 pounds in 2013).

MARCH MADNESS

AND THE WINNER IS...TEAM GRAF!

In a close matchup Team Graf pulled out all of the stops to beat Team Blevins at lunch on April 11, 2016.  Congratulations to everyone that participated in our membership challenge.

Now the fun begins.  We have accepted 10 new members since the beginning of this contest.  Along with on boarding this year's 30 new members we need to continue to court the prospective members that have joined us during this Madness. Just because the "game" is over it is not time to forget that we have interested a number of people in our great organization.

We have 15 more people to recruit to make our goal this year of 45 new members.  We can do this!

2016 DISTRICT ASSEMBLY

FROM THE DESK OF:
Steve Sandbo, DGE
District Governor Elect, 2015-16  District 6690

As was communicated in an earlier email to you, our District Assembly (meeting) is scheduled for Saturday April 23rd from 8:00 to 1:00 at Zane State College in Zanesville. So much is changing and evolving within Rotary in all Five Avenues of Service that it's really important to your club's future that as many members from your club participate in District Assembly Training as possible.

Even though only Club Presidents Elect are required to attend, I highly encourage all clubs to ask their key committee chairs in the areas of Membership, Public Image, Club Foundation, Club Global Grant Chairs, New Generations and Officers and other club members to attend.

Here's the deal:

For only $20 per attendee,  your members receive 4 hours of great District 6690 Rotary fellowship and seminars pertaining to what your club needs to be doing and focusing on to remain relevant in the future.

Contact Scott Brown if you are interested in attending.

What the Derby Day Soiree’ helps support!

The Columbus Rotary Foundation gives more than $250,000 annually to our community. These funds focus on improving the lives of children and families locally and in other countries. One local beneficiary of our Derby Day Soiree’ is Columbus City Schools. …..providing more than $100,000 in scholarships to over 100 students annually. Internationally, we support medical missions to other countries to correct cleft lips and palates of needy children.

And, you can be engaged in many different ways! If you are a newer member to Columbus Rotary, getting engaged with Derby Day is a great way to get to know other members and have fun at the same time! This is a short term commitment that can lead you to many other opportunities! Take a look at some of the ways you can help, which are listed below.
