"Columbus Through a Wide Angle Lens"
Michael Wilkos, Director of Community Research
The Columbus Foundation

It's hard to predict the future, and get it right. Rarely do we get the opportunity to examine trends through a long-term lens, say two generations.  When we examine change over time we notice either how much has changed,or how little.

Recently the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission published Insights 2050 - predicting Columbus out 35 years.  Do we grow as we have in the past, a more planned future, focused growth, or maximum infill?

The report got The Columbus Foundation thinking about community needs and philanthropy, and how our community has changed looking back and predicting forward, 35 years.

Dr. Bill LaFayette of Regionomics, completed Columbus  1980, 2015, and 2050 for The Columbus Foundation looking at everything from basic needs & education to immigration & health care and dozens of issues in between to see how much we have changed, and how we might change in the future.

Service Above Self College Scholarships

Each year our Club sponsors 10 Service Above Self college scholarships worth $2500 each  to deserving high school seniors in the Columbus City Schools.  We conduct brief interviews with candidates proposed by the high schools in Columbus, focusing on their academic achievement and their commitment to community service.   Galen Graham is coordinating the interview process.

The interviews this year will be on the mornings of Wednesday, April 6, and Thursday, April 7 and will be conducted by seven teams of three or four Rotarians.

Our scholarship program is one of the major activities of the Club each year, and as newer Rotarians, we want to offer you the opportunity of joining us as interviewers.   We will provide interview questions and help arrange car pools to the schools.  We will have more candidates than we have scholarships, so this is important work and we would very much appreciate your willingness to serve.  I should also mention that listening to the stories of these talented students and how they achieved so much is often very inspirational, and is one of the best parts of the Rotary year for those who participate.

2016 DISTRICT ASSEMBLY

FROM THE DESK OF:
Steve Sandbo, DGE
District Governor Elect, 2015-16  District 6690

As was communicated in an earlier email to you, our District Assembly (meeting) is scheduled for Saturday April 23rd from 8:00 to 1:00 at Zane State College in Zanesville. So much is changing and evolving within Rotary in all Five Avenues of Service that it's really important to your club's future that as many members from your club participate in District Assembly Training as possible.

Even though only Club Presidents Elect are required to attend, I highly encourage all clubs to ask their key committee chairs in the areas of Membership, Public Image, Club Foundation, Club Global Grant Chairs, New Generations and Officers and other club members to attend.

Here's the deal:

For only $20 per attendee,  your members receive 4 hours of great District 6690 Rotary fellowship and seminars pertaining to what your club needs to be doing and focusing on to remain relevant in the future.

Contact Scott Brown if you are interested in attending.
